Research areas

Despite constant scientific and medical progress, many patients continue to die or suffer the consequences of a stroke or cardiovascular diseases.

Thus, in France, each year, 165,000 strokes are recorded, of which 25% will be fatal, and 50% will result in a major irreversible disability. The causes of these strokes are multiple, but nearly one-third of them are attributable to an underlying heart condition, such as atrial fibrillation. Additionally, there are 120,000 myocardial infarctions, as well as nearly 70,000 deaths related to heart failure.

These pathologies affecting the brain and/or heart share common risk factors and similar etiological mechanisms. The objective of our research team is to better understand, both in humans and through experimental models, the links that unite cerebro- and cardiovascular diseases.

The research projects of our team combine the skills of physicians (neurologists, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, ophthalmologists, etc.) and those of researchers in a translational approach, encompassing clinical, epidemiological, and experimental research.
